Battery Recycling
We live in a digital age and much of our interconnected world runs on batteries. The good news is that those batteries can, and should, be recycled. Here in Summit County, we have simple drop-off areas at the Breckenridge and Frisco Recycling Centers.
Batteries tossed in the trash can get crushed leak toxic chemicals, creating a major fire hazard. So, please remember, it’s no big deal to just seal them in a bag and store them in a cool dry place until you’re ready to recycle.
What Kind of Batteries Can be Recycled?
Most batteries contain a number of chemicals and no matter the type — car battery, cell phone battery, or even a small watch battery — it’s critical to recycle them properly. All you need to do is tape both ends of the battery and then drop them in the battery recycling bin.
Single Use Batteries
Alkaline, Zinc Carbon, and Lithium batteries (including AA, AAA, 9 volts, C, and D) are commonly found in devices such as alarm clocks, remote controls, and children's toys.
Rechargeable Batteries
These batteries, which contain Lithium Ion, are commonly used in small appliances, laptops, tablets, cell phones, radios, and cameras.
Automotive and Marine Batteries
Car batteries are not accepted at the SCRAP. Utilize the drop centers (Frisco and Breckenridge) for proper disposal.
