Upon entering Garden of Eden, customers are warmly welcomed with lush greenery, charming flower arrangements, and unique gifts that would brighten up anyone’s home. The business specializes in florals for large-scale events, but also offers local delivery and a monthly flower subscription through their Garden Variety Club. Carla Pettit took ownership of Garden of Eden in 2016, although the shop has been in operation since 2006.

Garden of Eden isn’t just creative with its flower arrangements, but also with how materials are reused and upcycled. Rarely do things go to waste – in fact, items that would normally be thrown in the trash elsewhere tend to find a home at Garden of Eden. From upcycled wood for floral displays to dried flower arrangements and take-back options for vases, it seems there’s nothing that Garden of Eden won’t use. In an effort to keep as much waste out of the landfill as she can, Carla decided to also start composting floral and greenery scraps through a compost pick-up service. This material is now turned into High County Compost that can be used on lawns and gardens, making a closed loop system.

Sustainability improvement: Composting floral and greenery waste

When I became aware that a majority of my waste was compostable, I wanted to redirect that waste with the help of the Resource Wise program. – Carla Pettit, Owner, Garden of Eden
