Common Hard to Recycle items

There aren’t many options for recycling building materials in our community. Below are some suggestions otherwise, please take your items to the landfill located at 639 Landfill Rd. in Dillon.

Suggestions:

  • Post the materials for free on Summit Freecycle.
  • Contact the Summit County Habitat ReStore located in Silverthorne (970) 423-7445.

Recycle your CFL bulbs and fluorescent tubes for FREE at the Summit County Resource Allocation Park if you are a Summit County resident. Proof of residency required. Non-residents: You can bring CFL bulbs to the SCRAP for $1.00 each. Fluorescent tubes are $0.50 per tube for 4 footers and $1.00 per tube for 8 footers.

All fluorescent light bulbs including CFLs and tubes contain mercury and must be handled and recycled carefully.

The manufacturer is the best choice for recycling ink. Many toner and ink cartridges (Dell and Hewlett Packard, for example) come with handy pre-paid shipping labels to send the old cartridges directly back to the manufacturer. Several brands such as Canon and HP also offer mail-back programs for ink and toner recycling.

The following businesses will take re-manufactured ink jet and toner cartridges FREE of charge:

Walmart located in Frisco: drop-off box located in the electronics department.

Target located in Silverthorne: drop-off box located at the customer service desk.
