Local rebates and federal tax credit available
Let's reach the community goal of 100% renewable power by 2035

The Solarize Summit program will run April 1 – June 30

Solar Made Simple

Between April – June 2020, HC3 and Summit Climate Action Collaborative are offering local residents and businesses the ability to leverage solar power installation through an exclusive bulk-purchasing program. Last year, our community embraced this opportunity and installed over 500 kW of solar power – enough to power 80 Summit County homes for a year.
With bonus $1,500 rebates available in certain communities, make 2020 the year you solarize.

* With respect to COVID-19 concerns in our communities, note that much of the Solarize process takes place remotely or outside and can be accomplished using safe social distancing measures.

How does Solarize Summit work?

  1. Sign up for a free, no-obligation site visit from Active Energies Solar.
  2. Receive a customized proposal. Decide if solar is right for you.
  3. Sign a contract with the installer.
  4. Install your solar system.
  5. Tell your neighbors – Solarize is a community program. The more people that sign up = the more you save!
  6. Celebrate clean, renewable energy!

*Note: With respect to COVID-19 concerns in our communities, note that much of the Solarize process takes place remotely or outside and can be accomplished using safe social distancing measures. If you choose, you don’t have to interact with Active Energies staff when they’re at your home for a site assessment, although in some cases, a staff member may need to enter your home or garage to access the electrical panel. When scheduling your site assessment, let them know what concerns you have, and they’ll work with you to address them.

Worried about paying for solar?

In 2019, most participants chose to finance their systems with no money out of pocket. Typically, the monthly on-bill credit you receive from Xcel Energy will offset the recurring financing costs.

What does it cost?

Pricing for the 2020 Solarize Summit program is as follows:

2.5 – 4.99 kW = $3.69/watt
5.0 – 8.5 kW = $3.44/watt
8.51 – 10.99 kW = $3.19/watt
11 – 15.49 kW = $3.05/watt
15.5 + = $2.96/watt

Keep in mind: 1 kilowatt (kW) = 1,000 watts.

In 2019, systems ranged in size from 2.03 – 16.43 kW, and the average size was 6.94 kW. Generally speaking, the smaller and more efficient your home, the smaller the system you’ll need.

What about the bulk-buy discount?

Great question! The Solarize discount is determined by the total solar capacity installed across Summit County through the program. That means the more people who go solar, the more everyone saves. At each level, everyone will receive the corresponding rebate amount at the end of the program.

0 – 99 kW = $150
100 – 249 kW = $225
250 – 499 kW = $300
500 – 999 kW = $375
1 MW + = $500 (This is the goal!)

But wait, there's more! The local governments of Breckenridge, Frisco, and Summit County are offering their own $1,500 rebates to residents who sign solar contracts. Rebates are limited, so sign up early to guarantee yours.

Active Energies Solar of Eagle County is the exclusive installer for this program.  Founded in 2006, the current owner, Rich Clubine, purchased the company in 2017. Since then, Rich has grown the business considerably. In 2019, Active Energies installed over 70 residential solar systems in our community through the Solarize Summit program. This year, they anticipate installing over 200 systems – one of them could be yours!

Additional saving and benefits to going solar

  1. Federal Tax Credits – The federal solar tax credit allows you to deduct 26 percent of the cost of installing a solar energy system from your federal taxes. After 2019, the tax credits for solar began to decline. Unless Congress intervenes, the tax credit is set to expire in 2022. Learn more with this great explanation from Energy Sage.
  2. Increase the value of your home without increasing property tax – Thanks to the state’s sales tax exemption Colorado homeowners who install solar energy don’t have to pay a dime in property taxes on the thousands of dollars solar adds to the value of your home.
  3. Helps support local climate and renewable energy goals – Breckenridge, Frisco, and Summit County Government all have 100% renewable energy goals, and people who Solarize help our community achieve these goals.
